There is a wide range of professional who work collaboratively with us to provide a comprehensive and integrated service. Please find information below on some of the services we have to offer our young people at Belvue School.
Clinical Psychology at Belvue School.
Clinical psychology works with pupils who have mental health needs, emotional needs or behavioural difficulties. Clinical psychology offers:
- Assessment, formulation (understanding the difficulties) and intervention for pupils attending the school. Pupils are referred by school staff for issues such as difficulties managing emotions (such as anger, anxiety and low mood), difficulties with behaviour (primarily difficulties at school, but also at home), difficulties with relationships (friends or family), and for pupils for whom there are concerns about their mental health. Clinical psychology can offer pupils therapy including cognitive behavioural therapy to support them. At times, the intervention can also include therapeutic sessions with parents and family at Belvue School. Where necessary clinical psychology liaises with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service for children and young people with learning disabilities (CAMHS-LD) at Carmelita House and refers families to appropriate services if their needs are not best met by the Clinical Psychology Service at Belvue School.
- Therapeutic groups for pupils, such as Disability Awareness.
- Evening workshops for parents around psychological issues. Workshops currently running are "Parent Empowerment: Sexuality and Adolescents with learning disabilities – how to help your teenager." On request other workshops can be offered. If you have a request please inform the Clinical Psychologist, or Ms O’Shea.
- Support, advice and training to the school staff at Belvue School.
Speech and Language Therapist
I am Lisa McLaren, Speech and Language Therapist at Belvue school. I am in school on a Tuesday (10-2) and Thursday (9-2). Students are referred to me through their class teacher. I will then carry out an assessment and provide therapy if appropriate or recommendations to be carried out in class. I see students for individual or paired therapy, and also run communication groups involving the whole class with the support of the Communications Champion, Pam Reilly and the class teacher. I link in closely with the Communications Champion so that I am aware of any speech and language issues that may arise at school. The Communications Champion also provides therapy for some students following aims set by the Speech and Language Therapist. I am always happy to meet with parents. I can be contacted via the school office or via email

Team Leader Special School Nursing
The special schools nursing service covers the 6 special schools in the borough. We are a team of nurses and health care assistants. A member of the team comes into Belvue School 2 days a week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We meet with children and their parents when the child has a medical need such as asthma or epilepsy to write care plan. This is to ensure that staff know what to do in the case of an emergency or when medication needs to be given.
We offer routine vaccinations to pupils with parental consent as well as being available for advice and first aid treatment when needed.
We have regular meetings with school staff and can assist with areas of the curriculum such as Personal Health and Social Education.
A member of the team is available by phone on the days when we are not in school. To get in touch phone our administrator on 0208825 9087 at Carmelita House.

Referral to Occupational Therapy -Children can be referred to the service by class teachers, with parental consent, though most are already known to the service. The therapist’s aim for all children known to OT to have their skills reviewed annually, and for all children to have specific targets to work towards. The targets are then incorporated and worked on as part of the child’s general education and development across home and school environments within the child’s everyday life.

Inclusion / Outreach Provision
My name is Marlene Howard and I am the Inclusion Coordinator at Belvue School. I work in partnership with class teachers and other professionals at school in developing outreach provision for our students who have been identified as requiring specialist teaching and support. This may take the form of access to a mainstream teaching environment, or perhaps a more sustained transition in moving schools.
I also work closely with local mainstream secondary schools in supporting students whose needs may be additionally met through access to our differentiated curriculum.
You can contact me through the school office, or email me on marleneh@belvue.ealing.sch.uk
School Counsellor
The school counselling service offers students a non-judgemental, private and confidential space where the students may begin to talk and reflect about any issues which may be of concern to them. The counsellor will offer support for the students to explore and find constructive ways to deal with their concerns. A newly built cabin provides the ideal environment for the therapeutic process to take place. Referrals can be made through the student’s tutor.
Music Therapy
Music Therapy at Belvue School takes place on a once a week basis during term times. Students are referred by the Head and the Teaching staff to enable emotional - social development and enhance I.E.P. targets.I qualified as a music therapist in 1996 and in 1998 I completed my MA in Developmental Music Therapy in Special Education.I am a State Registered Arts Therapist (HPC Registration No AS00178). Over the past twelve years I have worked as a senior music therapist for Ealing Music Therapy (www.ealingmusictherapy.org) in a range of educational settings in Ealing and Southall with young children and adolescents with developmental delay, learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders and emotional/behavioral issues. I offer individual and group therapy sessions at Belvue School, working in collaboration with the Head, Deputy Head, Teachers, Teachers’ Support, Family Worker and the Multi-Disciplinary Team. My interest in supporting children with trauma and attachment difficulties resulted in undertaking additional training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Filial Therapy and Theraplay as part of my Parent-Child Therapist training at the Child Centre for Mental Health in Islington.

Connexions is an impartial advice and guidance organisation that works with young people up to the age of 19, and up to the age of 25 for those with learning disabilities/difficulties.
Within Belvue School the Connexions Service is introduced in Year 9 at the young person’s Transition Review. The Connexions Personal Adviser will gather information for the ‘transition plan’ (a written document), which is then updated each year at their Annual Review. As the young person nears the end of their time at school the Connexions Personal Adviser will support and help young people and their families identify appropriate next steps, which could include:
- Further Education (local college)
